Former “Modern Family” star, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, has just shared a major life update. The actress, who played Lily Tucker-Pritchett on the beloved series, just came out as bisexual, and she did it in iconic “Modern Family” style.
Anderson-Emmons joined “Modern Family” in Season 3 at just 4 years old. She stepped into the role of Lily, the quick-witted daughter of Mitch and Cam, and quickly became a fan favorite. She played Lily for eight seasons, growing up on screen and becoming one of the youngest actors ever to walk the red carpet at the SAG Awards.
Now, Anderson-Emmons is opening up about a different part of her life. She has come out as bisexual, with the help of a very popular sound bite from “Modern Family.” Here is a look at Aubrey’s hilarious announcement.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons has cleared up rumors about her sexuality.
During Pride Month, Anderson-Emmons posted a playful yet powerful video on Instagram to share her truth. In the clip, she lip-syncs a hilarious scene from Modern Family featuring her character, Lily. In that scene, Lily’s Aunt Gloria insists, “You are Vietnamese,” and little Lily famously replies, “No, I’m not, I’m gay, I’m gay!” Anderson-Emmons mouths along to Lily’s punchline, laughing, clearly owning the moment.
Across the video, she wrote, “People keep joking so much about me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi).” With that on-screen text, she directly addressed the running jokes and fan speculation about her sexuality, confirming that yes, she is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. In her caption, Anderson-Emmons proudly wished everyone a happy Pride, writing, “happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe.”
Fans and friends exploded with support in the comments. Many cheered her on and sent heartfelt Pride Month wishes. Some even joked that her on-screen dads, Mitch and Cam, would be over the moon proud of their TV daughter for coming out. “Omgggg Cam and Mitch would be so happy,” one person wrote. While another added, “Coming out to this audio is truly iconic.” Anderson-Emmons even received love from the official “Modern Family” Instagram account, which commented a heart-face emoji in response to the video.
Who is Aubrey Anderson-Emmons dating?

As for Anderson-Emmons’ love life, she was previously off the market. According to The List, the young star has been linked to fellow teen musician Phoenix Reed. The publication reports that the two have been publicly going strong since at least early 2022. Anderson-Emmons also shared videos from their time together at prom, suggesting that their relationship was solid.
Several “Modern Family” stars proudly represent the LGBTQIA+ community, both on and off-screen. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett, is openly gay and has long used his platform to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights. His on-screen husband, played by Eric Stonestreet, is straight in real life but remains a vocal ally. Anderson-Emmons’ coming-out was equal parts witty and heartfelt. She drew inspiration from the show that made her famous and the pride she feels in who she is.
