Strategist Jordan C. Brown isn’t just a political expert with deep ties to campaigns and causes — he’s also a son, and now, a grieving one. In a heartfelt moment, the usually private Brown opened up about his father’s passing, sharing how the loss shook him and changed the way he sees life, family, and even his own identity.
Brown built his name as a public figure’s spouse and as a key power player behind the scenes in Democratic politics. On LinkedIn, he describes his work as operating “at the intersection of politics, technology, and entertainment to drive progressive social change.” For over two decades, Brown has advised campaigns at every level. He joined John Kerry’s 2004 presidential run, then helped Barack Obama secure victories in both 2008 and 2012 — raising funds and rallying celebrity supporters along the way. He later served on advisory councils for Hillary Clinton and joined campaign committees for President Joe Biden.
Now, Brown is opening up about a deeply personal loss. The strategist revealed that his father passed away — a man who inspired nearly every aspect of Brown’s life.

Brown took to Instagram to announce his father’s death in a touching tribute. In his message, Brown celebrated his dad as “the ultimate example of what a man could be.”
“My Dad left us unexpectedly Sunday morning,” Brown wrote. “He embodied the first rule of parenting: if you have children, you must love them unconditionally throughout their lives. He did that, and taught me how to do that for my son.”
The strategist’s post hit especially hard during Father’s Day week, just as he celebrated his first one as a dad alongside his husband and their infant son. He shared how he came out to his father while in college, remembering that at first, his dad “didn’t understand. At all. But it didn’t matter,” because the love never wavered. As Brown recalled, his father told him, “You are my son and nothing you could ever do could change the love I feel for you.”
Brown said his dad was scared for him at first, but eventually came to see how being openly gay changed his life instead of holding him back. As Brown hit major milestones—like planning wedding music with his partner and welcoming a child — his father stood proudly by his side. He even formed tight bonds with Brown’s friends, helped choose songs for the wedding, and, as Brown put it with a smile, was “beyond excited that he finally got a star athlete son [Colton Underwood] in the family.”

Brown’s relationship with Colton Underwood plays a central role in his story. Underwood, a former NFL player and “The Bachelor” heartthrob, came out as gay in April 2021. Later that year, he and Brown went public with their relationship.
The couple moved quickly but with purpose. They announced their engagement in February 2022 and married the following year in a dreamy three-day celebration in Napa Valley. In September 2024, Brown and Underwood welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Bishop, born via surrogate, per People magazine.
How do you think a parent’s “unconditional love” can shape their child’s identity — especially when it comes to LGBTQIA+ acceptance?
