“Big Brother UK” returned in September 2025 for its 22nd season, and the cast is messier than ever. The reality show, known as a social experiment, brings 12 strangers together under constant camera surveillance. Each week, housemates complete tasks and face nominations, with one person evicted until a winner claims the £100,000 prize.

This year’s cast features a mix of ages, backgrounds, and identities. Among them is 25-year-old Zelah Glasson, a South London personal trainer who is an openly transgender man. In the Oct. 7 episode, a routine game of spin the bottle took a sharp turn when contestant Caroline Monk, a woman in her 50s from Canvey Island, misgendered Glasson — leaving both the cast and audiences stunned. Here’s how it all went down.

Caroline made several inappropriate comments about Zelah.

Monk started the game by asking Glasson, “If you had a cock, what would you do with it?” The question immediately made the group uncomfortable. Later in the same round, when pansexual housemate Nancy said she would choose Glasson for a hypothetical island-family scenario, Monk suddenly shouted, “She’s a girl — no, you’re not!”

The housemates reacted right away. Some covered their eyes, while others tried to stop the game. Monk didn’t stop there. She continued, asking, “But you haven’t got a willy though, have you?” Cameras captured Glasson’s stunned expression and the housemates’ collective shock.

The fallout was instant and painful. Glasson went to the Diary Room in tears. “I can’t remember the last time words hurt me like that,” he said. Later that evening, Big Brother summoned Monk to the Diary Room and showed her clips of her comments. In a firm tone, the voice of Big Brother said, “Caroline, Big Brother thinks that your language in these instances was offensive and unacceptable.”

Producers formally issued Monk a warning and made it clear that another offense would lead to her immediate removal from the game. In the Diary Room, Monk apologized repeatedly. “Sorry — it was a horrible thing I said. Horrible,” she admitted, promising to “apologize profusely” to everyone. Later, on the “Late & Live” spin-off show, Monk told Glason she had “no excuse” and felt ashamed for hurting him.

Glasson and Monk sat down for a private conversation in the house, which later aired on Late & Live, to clear the air. Glasson remained gracious. He told Monk he understood she might have been trying to be funny or stir drama but emphasized that her words had hurt him. By the end of the chat, Glasson had forgiven her, assuring Monk that she could still learn from the experience.

Fans of “Big Brother UK” later took to social media to share their frustrations, and they did not hold back. “Still trying to figure out what compels people to act like this. I just don’t get it. Monk should’ve been removed instantly,” one Redditor commented. While another wrote, “Hopefully this will help the trans community have support by people seeing how hurtful it can be to take away someone’s identity by airing this and showing the REAL interaction that happens to many many people.”

Do you think “Big Brother UK” handled Caroline’s comments appropriately, or should she have been removed from the house?
