Diem Brown, known mostly from her appearances on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge, died at 10:22 a.m. Friday in New York City.
Last month, she revealed the devastating news that the cancer that had been found in her stomach and colon in August had spread to her liver and lymph nodes.
“That was a shocker to me,” she said at the time. “I was blown away. It really crushed a little bit of my spirit.”
This was Diem’s third cancer diagnosis, after first being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at 23. Traces of the disease returned in 2002, but Diem had beat them both.
“MTV is tremendously sad to hear the news that Diem Brown has lost her long battle with cancer,” the network said in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Diem was a true fighter and brought passion to everything she touched. We will miss her.”
Friends and family had been gathering at her bedside at a New York City hospital this week as her condition worsened.
If you’re familiar with Diem, then you know she was a fighter.
“You can count me out all you want,” she recently told People. “But I’m not out. I’m fighting. I want to be here.”
Our prayers are with her friends and family.
