Andy Cohen revealed on Friday that he was diagnosed with skin cancer.

He only learned of the cancer after his good friend Kelly Ripa urged him to get a mark on his lip checked out.

Self-described “tanorexic” Cohen said while co-hosting “Live with Kelly” that both Ripa and her husband, Mark Conseulos, noticed the mark and urged him multiple times to see a specialist. It turned out to be melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

“You and I were at a party for Anderson’s [Cooper] mom in April, and you said, ‘You have a black dot on your lip, I don’t think that’s something good,’” Cohen told Ripa on-air.

“It was melanoma and they removed it, and I just want to thank you because you were so dogmatic,” he continued. “… The lip heals very well and I really had a chunk removed out of it.”

The “Superficial” author, 48, went on to say that this experience “will change my relationship to the sun.” “I am tanorexic, I love the sun. And I of course never thought that kind of thing would happen to me,” Cohen said.

Ripa disclosed that it was the third time she spotted a questionable mark on a friend. Both stressed the importance of getting skin-checks.

That’s what friends are for. With most things in life — if you see something, say something.
