This time last year, ‘Empire’ wowed us all with stellar ratings and an equally as stellar soundtrack debut.
The season 1 soundtracked moved an impressive 110,000 copies and even beat out Madonna to land the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. How can we forgot how ubiquitous “Drip Drop” was last summer?
Banking on the success of the first season, Empire show-runners hired heavyweights Timbaland and Ne-Yo to craft songs for Season 2…but unfortunately the music didn’t quite deliver.
According to Billboard, the ‘Empire’ season 2 soundtrack only sold 15,000 copies in it’s first week and there were zero streaming numbers.
We’re not sure if the general public is over ‘Empire’ in general or if the music simply wasn’t up to par this season…but we can’t help but wonder what this might mean for Jussie Smollett’s forthcoming debut album.
