Yara Shahidi Is Going to Harvard

It’s official!

Yara Shahidi will be attending Harvard University in Fall 2018.

The 17-year-old announced her decision on Instagram.

“The paradox of education is precisely this — that as one to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated,” she quoted James Baldwin.

If you recall, back in March she revealed that former First Lady Michelle Obama wrote her a letter of recommendation.

Shahidi’s journey to further her education got a major boost of support from the White House.

As for why she’s defering school for one more year, she says that time off will allow her to work. She’s starring in ‘College-ish,’ a spin-off of ABC’s ‘Black-ish’ headed to Freeform.

“I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path,” she explained.

Congrats to Yara! Check out her post below.
