Mahershala Ali is an Academy Award winner.
The 43-year-old, who recently welcomed a daughter with wife Amatus Sami-Karim, won the Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role for Moonlight at tonight’s ceremony.
Like Viola Davis, Mahershala was considered the frontrunner throughout awards season. Although he was snubbed for a Golden Globe, he previously won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
A tearful Mahershala thanked director Barry Jenkins, his wife, cast and more during his acceptance speech.
