In case you missed it last week, Sudanese model Ajak Deng alleged to being a victim of racism by French Fashion House Balmain, through a series of very aggressive and direct tweets from the model.

In the tweets, she dropped the F-Bomb a number of times claiming that she was “kicked out of Balmain for being black”.

Balmain has not responded to the tweets, and the suspected and alleged cancellation of Deng from the runway line-up is not confirmed; and while there were indeed other ethnic models, like supermodel Jourdan Dunn, that walked the runway, we will note that if Deng had been part of the model line-up, she would have been the only model to represent darker skinned beauties.

There is always two sides to a story, and in most cases more than two… but whether you believe that Deng is accurate in her portrayal of what occurred or not, one thing is certain and that is the continued lack of black representation on the high fashion runways.

The casting directors choose models based on a look… who will sell the theme and concept of the collection. Deng is currently represented by number one international model management firm, IMG, and we wish her all the luck with the rest of her career.
