Serena Williams is getting much needed rest after being forced to retire from Wimbledon due to a viral illness.

Yesterday, Serena attempted to play but literally broke down on the court during her doubles match with sister Venus.

Emergency court medics delayed the match to check Serena’s vital signs and she tried to push through, but she was forced to stop after serving four consecutive double faults. It was truly heartbreaking to watch.

She shared the above photo with fans earlier today letting everyone know that she’s okay. She emailed a statement to news outlets saying

‘I really wanted to compete, but this bug just got the best of me.’
