Love her or hate her, Iggy Azalea just made history…again.
Iggy now has the record for female rapper with the most weeks spent at #1 on the Hot 100, besting previous record holder Lil Kim.
“Fancy” takes the #1 spot on the Hot 100 again this week for the 6th week in a row.
Take a look at the updated rankings:
6 weeks, “Fancy,” Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, 2014
5 weeks, “Lady Marmalade,” Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and P!nk, 2001
2 weeks, “Doo Wop (That Thing),” Lauryn Hill, 1998
1 week, “Stand Up,” Ludacris featuring Shawnna, 2003
But that’s not all, Billboard also reports that “Fancy” ranks No. 1 on the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a sixth and 11th week, respectively. The song also tops the Songs of the Summer ranking for a fifth week, remaining the only song that has ruled since the chart returned after Memorial Day.
Previously, Ariana Grande’s single “Problem” featuring Ariana Grande was at #2, but this week it drops down to #3 ending Iggy’s 1-2 reign and leaving her tied with Ashanti for the longest such run by a woman.
Ashanti was perched at Nos. 1 and 2 from April 20 through May 18, 2002, with her “Foolish” and as a guest on Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?”
Whew knew “Fancy” would be such a hit? She reacted to the news by posting a photo of Billboard’s article along with the caption:
Pretty good way to start July! Lots of motivation to continue to work hard. I’m putting all my energy into black widow now & hoping you’ll love the video for it as much as you all enjoyed fancy. eek! I’m nervous but excited.
Can she do it again? We’ll have to wait and see.
Congrats Iggy!
