A third grade teacher and her husband have been arrested after authorities discovered a meth lab in their North Carolina home.
via NY Daily News:
Lori Riley Whitley, 38, and her husband, Gary, 41, face multiple charges, including manufacturing methamphetamine and child abuse, Johnston County officials said.
Deputies said they discovered meth-making equipment Friday during the execution of a search warrant at the couple’s home in Zebulon, a rural area about 24 miles east of Raleigh.
The couple’s 8-year-old son was placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services because of child abuse charges stemming from him living at the allegedly meth-filled home, WRAL reported.
Lori Whitley has been suspended with pay from her job at Wendell Elementary School, where she’s worked as a third-grade teacher since 2002, a Wake County Public School spokeswoman said.
She is a “good lady,” neighbor Bernard Brodie told the local station. He said he did not know there was a drug operation next door but had recently noticed a strong chemical odor wafting from the house.
“It’s unreal,” Brodie said.
The couple was booked into the Johnston County jail. Lori Whitley was held in lieu a $157,500 bond and her husband was booked on a $207,500 bond.
How did this woman go from teaching math during the day to teaching meth at night?
