Lionel Richie received the high honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2014 BET Awards.
Noted artists such as John Legend, Pharrell Williams and Yolanda Adams took part in the celebration by performing his songs and presenting Lionel with his trophy. Somehow in the midst of dozens of rehearsals, walkthroughs, and preparation — BET managed to misspell his name on national television.
Shortly after the misspelling aired, the name “Lionel Ritchie” began trending on Twitter, although many people didn’t even notice the error.
Way to go, BET. Let’s hope it was spelled correctly on his actual award.
