Rachel Jeantel Offered Full Scholarship to any HBCU by Radio Host Tom Joyner

Radio host Tom Joyner was “so moved” by Rachel Jeantel’s interview with Piers Morgan last night discussing her testimony during the Zimmerman trial that he has offered the 19-year-old a full scholarship to any HBCU.

In an interview this morning (audio here), Joyner expressed his disappointment in the fact that when Piers Morgan asked Jeantel what she and Trayvon Martin talked about — and she replied they they talked about their plans for the future — Morgan didn’t ask the follow-up question: What does Rachel Jeantel want for her future?

Jeantel’s attorney told Joyner that Jeantel originally wanted to go into law enforcement. Joyner then got on the phone with Jeantel, told her that he loved her, and said that he would like to pay for her to attend any Historically Black College or University. He said:

If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that.

I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like.

That was such a lovely thing of Tom to do. The scholarship will be provided by the Tom Joyner Foundation.
