Hollywood may have blackballed Mo’Nique, but she’s still found a way to remain afloat.
On May 16, Mo’Nique will star alongside Queen Latifah in HBO’s biopic Bessie.
Queen Latifah will portray blues singer Bessie Smith, while Mo’Nique will tackle the role of Ma Rainey, who was also a blues singer.
The biopic will chronicle Bessie’s triumphs, her alleged affair with Ma Rainey and her bout with alcoholism.
The Wire’s Michael Kenneth Williams (Omar!), Mike Epps and Tika Sumpter will also star in Bessie.
