Angelina Jolie can add Dame to her ever-expanding list of titles (Oscar winner, activist, mother, philanthropist, etc…), as she’s just been made an honorary Dame by Queen Elizabeth in the annual British Honors.
She’s been made a dame of the British Empire – one of the highest honors awarded by Britain – for raising global awareness of violence against women as the co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.
Unfortunately, she can’t be directly addressed as ‘dame’ because she’s a foreign citizen — it’s just an honorary title.
“To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” Jolie said in a statement. “Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”
What a great honor! Check out this clip of Angelina’s speech from the summit.
