Nipsey Hussle Was Reportedly Being Investigated By the LAPD for Gang-Related Activity at the Time of His Murder

Nipsey Hussle was under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department at the time of his death, according to the New York Times.

The joint probe, which also includes the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, focused on whether there was gang activity going down at his strip mall.

The property at the forefront of the investigation is where Hussle, 33, was gunned down on March 31 outside his own clothing store.

Eric Holder, 29, the man suspected of fatally shooting Hussle, was charged with murder and faces life in prison if convicted.

It’s unclear what kicked off the investigation into the strip mall, but the probe is still ongoing, according to the report.

Hussle’s business associates at the property, which also includes a cellphone store and barbershop, are also the target of the investigation, the report said.

LAPD spokesman Josh Rubenstein said the department has been in contact with Hussle’s business partners at the strip mall “to mitigate some of those crime issues,” according to the Times.

The ongoing probe almost led to Hussle’s eviction from the strip mall before the rapper and a group of partners raised $2.5 million to purchase the strip, the report said.

During a memorial for Hussle last April at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Hussle’s brother, Samiel Asghedom, explained to the crowd how the two had avoided eviction.

“I don’t know if anybody knows, but we had a 30-day notice and they were kicking us out of all the businesses we owned in the lot,” said Asghedom.

Instead, the landlords told the siblings: “At this point if you guys are still interested in buying the lot, you know, rather than kick you guys out we’re willing to sell it to you.”
