‘Naked and Afraid’ Contestant Melanie Raucher Died from Sniffing Air Canisters

An autopsy showed that “Naked and Afraid” contestant Melanie Rauscher died by accident when she inhaled a fatal amount of compressed air used in cleaning products.

Rauscher, 35, was discovered dead near some cans of dust cleaner on July 17 in Prescott, Arizona. The autopsy report from the Yavapai County Medical Examiner stated that Melanie inhaled the toxic propellant, leaving her unresponsive, TMZ reported Saturday.

Her official cause of death was listed as difluoroethane toxicity. The street slang for that is called “huffing” and it’s a practice used mostly by young adults seeking a cheap high. The report said that drugs and alcohol did not play a role in her death.

Rauscher had been dog-sitting at the time. The owners returned home from vacation to find her dead on the bed in the guest room.

We don’t even know what to say.
