Academy Award-winning actress Mo’Nique continues to make the media rounds to promote her new independent film Blackbird (which debuted today!), and last night she stopped by Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens: Live to chop it up with host Andy Cohen and Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez.
During her appearance, Mo’Nique reveals where she placed her Oscar, and she once again addresses her back-and-forth with director Lee Daniels and being offered the role of Cookie Lyon on FOX’s hit show Empire.
Below are a few tidbits from her appearance.
Mo’Nique on her first celebrity crush:
“Michael Jackson. I was going to be Mrs. Jackson. I was going to be a good sister-in-law to all the Jackson brothers and to Janet and all of them.”
Mo’Nique on being offered the role of Cookie on FOX’s hit show “Empire”:
“Actually, Lee Daniels and I had a conversation and he offered me the role of Cookie. We went back and forth with his company and our company trying to get TV quotes and all. And then I got a call back from him, because I hadn’t heard where I was supposed to go and do this screen test. That’s when he said ‘Mama, you’ve been blackballed.’ And I said, ‘Well why have I been blackballed?’ And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.’ And I said, ‘What game is that.’ And he was never able to answer that question. So that’s as clear as I can be because I’ve been saying the same thing repeatedly.”
Mo’Nique explains why her Oscar is tucked away in a cabinet and Andy Cohen might have a solution.
In the game “Let’s Toast to a Roast,” Mo’Nique gives the kindest roast to celebrities like Justin Bieber and Kanye West that Andy has ever seen.
Make sure you watch Blackbird!
