Empire co-creator Lee Daniels pretty much confirmed an Empire spin-off series at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, California, this evening.
When asked if there’d be an Empire spin-off series, Lee responded, “There is going to be a spin-off from Empire, without question. We’ve talked about it in the writers room already.”
Lee continued, “There’s so much ripe story that we’ve talked about already—about Cookie’s family, what makes her her. That in itself is fascinating to me.”
Does that mean the series will focus on Cookie’s upbringing?
So it seems.
“Here Cookie is now, but how did she get to where she’s at right now?” Lee stated. “Let’s go back and understand her mother, her sisters. Let’s understand the makings of her. It’d be like a prequel.”
