Jennifer Lopez to Star In and Produce Netflix’s Adaptation of FBI Thriller ‘The Cipher’

Jennifer Lopez is set to star in and produce a movie adaptation of ‘The Cipher’ for Netflix.

Netflix optioned the novel of the same name by crime fiction writer Isabella Maldonado to adapt for the screen.

The story centers on FBI agent Nina Guerrero (Lopez), who finds herself drawn into a serial killer’s web after he posts complex codes and riddles online corresponding to recent murders in order to lure her into a cat-and-mouse chase.

Lopez will produce along with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, while the executive producer credits will be shared by Liza Fleissig, Ginger Harris-Dontzin, Maldonado and Catherine Hagedorn. Courtney Baxter will be an associate producer.

Lopez — repped by CAA, the Medina Company and Hirsch Wallerstein — will next be seen in Universal comedy Marry Me opposite Owen Wilson.

Before becoming a crime novelist, Maldonado graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico and became the first Latina in her department to reach the rank of captain, commanding the Special Investigations and Forensics Division before retiring after 22 years at the bureau.
