Is a Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard ‘Empire’ Spin-Off in the Works?

Cookie and Lucious Lyon could soon be getting a show all on their own, according to ‘Empire’ EP Ilene Chaiken.

via Deadline:

“There’s a good chance there will be a spinoff,” Chaiken said after appearing at TCA to talk about the third season of the hit Fox series. She declined to elaborate.

Maybe not coincidentally, younger versions of Lucious and Cookie are being featured in flashback scenes in multiple episodes this coming season.

“The show offers so many opportunities,” Chaiken smiled when asked about the possibility of a spinoff during a Q&A for Empire’s third season. “Potential spinoffs with these characters – sure!”

Season 2 ended with Cookie saying “I’m done,” reminded Taraji P. Henson, the actress who has been much feted for playing Cookie in the Fox series. In Season 3, Cookie is going to try to leave Lucious (Terrence Howard), Chaiken said, adding that the season would delve into Cookie’s backstory, in depth.

Asked if she thought Cookie ever could be really done with Lucious, Henson responded in the negative, reminding TV critics he is the father of Cookie’s children, joking, “Not unless she kills him.” Then she stared meaningfully at Chaiken and EP/director Sanaa Hamri.

Mariah Carey already has shot her guest appearance on the show. “She was great,” Henson said. “She’s fabulous; I wish I could wear a leotard like that. What she brings to the music industry she brought to the show. I’m glad Mariah spent time with little old us.”

If anyone deserves an ‘Empire’ spin-off, it’s Cookie and Lucious. They truly are the stars of the show!
