Get Into It: Netflix’s ‘Nappily Ever After’ Trailer Explores the Relationship Between Black Women and Their Hair [Video]

Ever since we heard that Sanaa Lathan would be taking the lead role in Netflix’s film adaptation of ‘Nappily Ever After,’ a novel by Trisha R. Thomas, we’ve been eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Now, the trailer has arrived and we get to see Sanaa  as Violet Jones, an uptight, ambitious, and seemingly flawless woman who has managed to “control” her hair since childhood through the use of perms, hot combs, and weaves. “

“Ever since I was a kid, my hair was everything,” she says in the trailer. “I had to be fixed. Only then was I perfect.”

After a terrible breakup and a mishap at the hair salon, “Violet begins to realize that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one that she really wanted,” the synopsis of the film reads.
