Ice Cube is set to play Scrooge in an upcoming remake of A Christmas Carol.

Per Deadline:

Universal Pictures has won a four-studio bidding battle to acquire “Humbug,” a spec that is fast coming together for Ice Cube to star in the title role, with Tim Story directing a contemporary retelling of the Charles Dickens’ tale “A Christmas Carol.” In the modern version, Cube will play a wealthy real estate mogul shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

Word has it that Ice Cube will be paid an impressive eight-figure salary for the role. Nice!

In other Hollywood news, Tessa Thompson (Dear White People) has joined the cast of HBO’s drama series Westworld.

According to DeadlineWestworld is described as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”

Tessa will play Charlotte Hale, “a mysterious and savvy provocateur with a unique perspective on Westworld.”

She joins previously announced cast members Anthony Hopkins, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and more.
