We’re only halfway through season two, but FOX has already renewed Empire for season three!

via EW:

The network has given an early renewal to the series, which has averaged a whopping 21.2 million viewers across multiple platforms and a 7.3 rating among adults 18–49 for its second season when including DVR playback. Plus Empire was recently the only broadcast series to earn a Golden Globe nomination for best drama, while star Taraji P. Henson won the Globe on Sunday for best leading actress in a TV drama.

Empire launched midseason on Fox last year and became a ratings phenomenon. Fox then added the show to its fall schedule this season. While ratings have remained dominant, the numbers have slipped a bit near the show’s winter finale from its prior heights. When Empire returns on Wednesday, March 30, the series will once again be paired with American Idol, which provided the drama with a helpful lead-in last season.

Congrats to the cast and crew!
