Diddy is putting health above partying. He announced Monday that he’s forgoing his annual New Year’s Eve party while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage, a refreshing change from some celebrities who have spent the shutdown partying.

2021 is upon us, but given the Coronavirus pandemic, New Year’s Eve celebrations — like many other occasions this year — will look a lot different…if they even happen at all. Diddy, for example, has a reputation for throwing great parties complete with luxury, A-listers, Ciroc and dancing. Unfortunately, those looking to turn up with the Bad Boy CEO in person or via Instagram Stories can begin to look for other plans as he has canceled his annual NYE event because of COVID-19.

“TO ALL MY FRIENDS: In efforts to keep everyone safe & healthy, unfortunately, WE ARE NOT HAVING A NYE PARTY THIS YEAR!” he wrote on social media. “I hope everyone had a blessed holiday and wish you all the best for the new year.”

“ATTENTION: THIS IS TO EVERYONE, ALL OF MY FRIENDS & FAMILY … I’M NOT CHANGING MY MIND…,” he reiterated in his caption. “SEE YOU ALL IN 2021! LOVE YOU!”

Diddy’s decision to put an end to his NYE party is a responsible attempt to control the spread of Coronavirus — an illness which has visibly shaken the hip hop industry with diagnoses, deaths, canceled tours and more. It also comes at a time when celebrities are being criticized for throwing or attending packed events.

Following Cardi B’s huge Thanksgiving event, she was forced to defend herself against angry fans who were unable to spend the holiday season with their families.

“Sorry. My bad. Wasn’t trying to make nobody feel bad,” she replied at the time. “I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good & uplifted me. I spent soo much money getting every1 tested, but it felt worth it. I wasn’t trying to offend no1.”

Uncle Luke also attended a large event when he celebrated a friend’s birthday party at a local strip. Unfortunately, he contracted the virus, later taking to social media to tell his fans, “If the establishment has too many people not following the protocols, don’t be afraid to go home and call it a night.”

Good on Diddy for making this announcement, although I don’t feel like too many other celebrities will be following his lead.
