The CW Orders Pilots for Ava DuVernay Superhero Series, ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot

Last week the CW renewed almost it’s entire lineup. Now they have handed pilot orders to three projects: Ava DuVernay’s superhero drama ‘Naomi’, the live-action reboot of ‘The Powerpuff Girls ‘and a millennial nun dramedy exec produced by Jennie Snyder Urman.

We reported last August that live-action Powerpuff Girls was being developed. The show will pick up with the trio in adulthood. Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles have grown disillusioned and resentful of their childhood spent fighting crime.

Ava DuVernay produced ‘Naomi’ will “follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.” The series is based on critically acclaimed 2019 comic book series Naomi, written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, an illustrated by Jamal Campbell.

The decision on whether or not The CW will order pilots over full-season orders should come by Spring.
