The Global Citizens Festival: Mandela 100 event is underway in Johannesburg, South Africa and Beyoncé & Jay-Z just left the stage.
The Carters gave fans a treat by performing a two-hour set .
Before the festival kicked off, Beyoncé wrote a letter describing what Nelson Mandela meant to her.
“I first met you in 2004 for the 46664 AIDS Benefit Concert in Cape Town, and the impact you have had on my life resonates with me today and every day,” she opened her letter. “Your kindness and gratitude for every experience, and your ability to forgive are lessons I have learned and will pass on to my three children.”
The festival celebrates what would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday. While we wait for full video of the performance to surface (and stay) online, you can read Bey’s full letter here.
