The Met Gala was blacker than ever in 2025. With this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebs didn’t just dress up — they delivered cultural statements. From Rihanna’s baby bump surprise to Zendaya’s couture comeback, these looks had us gagged.
1. Rihanna
Rihanna shut the carpet down in a custom Marc Jacobs pinstripe corset dress, revealing her third pregnancy. She wore a cropped tuxedo jacket, a pinstriped skirt with a sculptural bustle, and a gray corset that hugged her bump. When asked if she brought an umbrella, Rihanna joked, “Rocky brought that. I brought the kid,” pointing to her bump. Fans went wild, speculating she might’ve said “kids,” sparking twin rumors.
2. A$AP Rocky
Rapper A$AP Rocky pulled up to the 2025 Met Gala as co-chair and gave Harlem dandyism a whole new meaning. He rocked a double-breasted wool parka with coated snaps and Velcro details, layering it over a crisp white shirt, satin vest, black trousers, and tie. He completed the look with Christian Louboutin x AWGE oxfords and Bulgari jewelry.
3. Zendaya
Zendaya stormed back onto the Met Gala scene after a break and gave us not one but two looks. She opened in a custom Louis Vuitton piece and then flipped the script in a vintage Givenchy gown, both styled by Law Roach.
4. Diana Ross
Diana Ross floated onto the scene in a jaw-dropping Ugo Mozie gown with a dramatic train and feathered flair. Inside the train, Ross had the names of her five children and eight grandchildren embroidered in silver.
5. Teyana Taylor
Teyana Taylor brought villainous glam to the carpet in a three-piece Marc Jacobs suit, a padded cape, and a matching cane. She had “Harlem Rose” stitched into her train to honor her roots.
6. Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter hit the carpet in a bold burgundy Louis Vuitton tuxedo bodysuit designed by Pharrell Williams. “I’m such a massive fan of Pharrell’s and have been to the show, and I was just like, ‘If I could go this year with him, that would be my dream.’ And it came true,” she told Vogue.
7. Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo showed out in a deep blue Valentino cape, paying tribute to André Leon Talley. Later, the co-chair revealed his ensemble underneath the cape, featuring a polka dot necktie, a polka dot flower on his lapel, and a plaid jacket — all Valentino. He didn’t just show up — he set the tone. His look honored Black fashion history while serving regal vibes.
8. Jodie Turner-Smith
Jodie Turner-Smith delivered Belle Époque drama in a burgundy leather Burberry look topped with a classic riding hat. Burberry said Jodie Turner-Smith’s look and top hat were a nod to Selina Lazevski, a Black equestrian icon from the Belle Époque era. In a press release shared with Town & Country, the brand confirmed her look honored Lazevski’s 1891 portrait shot by Paul Nadar in Paris.
9. Doechii
Doechii ate in a custom Louis Vuitton ‘fit that mixed crisp tailoring with avant-garde energy. She teamed up with Pharrell Williams to design the fit — an ivory monogrammed blazer with dramatic tails, checkered Bermuda shorts, burgundy T-bar shoes, and mid-calf socks. Her ensemble honored Julius Soubise, the 18th-century Afro-Caribbean dandy, and embodied the gala’s theme with bold precision.
10. Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe transformed into “Jane the Time Traveler” in a Thom Browne cape with trompe l’oeil illusions and a working clock monocle. “I try to deconstruct social norms, and I’ve tried to deconstruct respectability politics, even when it comes to wearing the suit,” Monáe told Vanity Fair.
