Zendaya Reportedly Lands Female Lead in Upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot

Zendaya--2016-Golden-Globe-Awards--02

Zendaya is taking her acting talents to the big screen as the lead in Sony/Marvel Studio’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

via Deadline:

I’m told that actress-singer Zendaya has landed a key role in the ensemble they are building around Tom Holland, who’ll play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the film to be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car). She was among the actresses who’ve quietly been testing for roles, and I hear she will play a character named Michelle. Nobody is providing details on whether this is the romantic lead opposite Peter Parker, but it doesn’t sound like it. In the comics, Parker romanced Mary Jane and Gwen.

Holland was the first to be cast so that he could be part of the ensemble in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed Captain America: Civil War, the first film in which Spidey has cross-pollinated with the established characters in the Marvel Studios universe. That film will be released July 7, 2017, and it’s produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige.

In Zendaya, Sony has hired an up-and-coming actress who was the star of the Disney Channel series Shake It Up! and K.C. Undercover. At Harvey Weinstein’s pre-Oscar party, Zendaya charmed the house as she sang “Neverland” from Weinstein’s stage musical Finding Neverland.

We thought we were over Spider-Man reboots, but we’re totally here for Zendaya.
