First it was announced that ‘The Bodyguard’ was being remade, then it was announced a Whitney Houston movie was in the works, follow by a collab with MAC Cosmetics was announced. And now a musical appears to be next.

We hear that Houston’s estate and its partner, Primary Wave Music — developing a musical for Broadway based on the life and career of the late music icon — are bringing in producer Sonia Friedman, fresh off her 10th Tony Award win.
Friedman won her latest Tony when her show, “The Inheritance,” notched a surprise win over “Slave Play” in the Best Play category.
Her Sonia Friedman Productions’ credits also include the shows “Mean Girls,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “1984,” and “Ink.”
The Houston musical would follow in the footsteps of other hit pop music shows such as the soon-to-reopen “Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations,” and “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” which just earned its star, Adrienne Warren, the Tony for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical.
No word yet on who will get to play Houston. But a theater source mused, “Can you imagine the ‘I Will Always Love You’ moment?”
In 2019, the late singer’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston, unveiled a deal with Primary Wave that would reportedly spawn a potential musical, as well as an album of unreleased Houston material, and even a hologram tour, among other Houston-branded projects.
Houston’s 1992 film, “The Bodyguard,” was made into a West End musical in 2012, and ran internationally through 2018. “The Inheritance” playwright Matthew López, is reportedly working on a new version of the classic “The Bodyguard” film for Warner Bros.
Houston’s music has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. She was tragically found dead in a hotel bathtub in 2012.
