We’ve heard from Beyoncé‘s father, Mathew Knowles, regarding his input on ‘Lemonade’ and he wasn’t really forthcoming about whether or not it’s based on Bey’s own marriage.
Now, Beyoncé’s mom is giving us her input.
In an interview with Houston’s KTRK, Tina Knowles-Lawson spoke about Lemonade’s message of healing and shared how her her experience with ex-husband Mathew’s infidelity factors into things.
“People make it all about the cheating and betrayal and, yes, that’s a part of it because that is something you have to heal from,” she said. “But the overall film, if you really listen to the poetry, it is one of hope and redemption and hopefully that can be healing for people.”
Like Mathew, she wouldn’t say if the album was directly about Beyoncé and Jay Z’s marriage.
“It could be about anyone’s marriage,” Tina explained. “I think that everybody at one time or another has been betrayed, lied to, it’s about the pain – and it’s about the healing process – and it’s about how do you get past that and move on.”
Amen, sister.
