Taraji P. Henson is reuniting with Empire co-creator Danny Strong on the civil rights drama The Best of Enemies.

The film will be based on Osha Gray Davidson’s book The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South, which recalls the decade-long feud between North Carolina civil rights activist Ann Atwater and former klansman C.P. Ellis.

Atwater fought for over a decade against C.P. Ellis, the Exalted Cyclops of Durham’s Ku Klux Klan. Their feud came to a sudden end in 1971 when a court-ordered school desegregation put the city in chaos, and the two reluctantly agreed to co-chair a two week-long community meeting in hopes of reaching a compromise. The events that followed changed the city, and the two of them forever.

Taraji will portray Atwater in the film, which is set to begin principal photography next year.
