Soulja Boy has done it all—from creating moments in hip-hop and meme history to crafting his own game consoles. With a new year upon us, though, he’s now looking to add a new title to his resume—actor.

Soulja Boy surprised social media after announcing that he is leaving the hip-hop world behind to exclusively focus on acting. The 31-year-old lyricist — whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way — dropped the shocking bombshell while promoting a new TV show on Instagram Live.
“I’m an actor now,” declared the “Crank That” singer on camera. “2022, my new TV show coming out January 21 [with] Revolt TV, shout-out to P. Diddy.”
The aspiring thespian continued, “Being Draco, new TV show January 21, 2022, we going into the year with all positive energy, you know what I’m saying?”
Soulja Boy concluded the post by insisting that he had put his previous music world “beefs” to bed.
“I ain’t got no smoke, no problems, no nothin,’” the Chicago native said. “All I’m doing is TV show and movies.”
And while Cortez Way didn’t mention the specific spats, the musician had recently called out Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) for allegedly getting him booted from other artists’ albums.
The jab stemmed from the pair’s highly publicized feud over the summer, which began after Soulja Boy’s contribution to the latter’s album “Donda” was left out of the final release.
In November, West explained that he’d scrapped the verse because it was “trash,” to which Cortez Way retorted on livestream that the whole album was trash, NME reported. West has since apologized for the barb.
Meanwhile, this past spring, Soulja Boy sparked a digital tiff with wrestling superstar Randy Orton after tweeting that the “rap game” was “faker than WWE.”
Love or Hate him, Soulja is entertaining.
