MTV thought that out of ALL the celebrities around to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin at the Video Music Awards on Monday that Madonna would be the best choice.
After a brief video snippet of Aretha singing “I Say a Little Prayer,” Madonna spoke before presenting the Video of the Year award — and spent the majority of the time talking about herself.
Ultimately, she ended a long-winded tale about her career and becoming a star with the following:
“Because none of this would have happened, could have happened without our Lady of Soul. She led me to where I am today. And I know she influenced so many people in this house tonight. I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”
Madonna is legendary, but this isn’t the tribute many were hoping for.
People are upset about Madonna's Aretha Franklin tribute at the VMA's 'cos it was basically all about her and not Aretha. Whatchu think? Here's a snippet
