12 inmates at a prison in Alabama used peanut butter to alter numbers on their jailhouse door to fool a new guard into opening it to let them free.
All but one have since been recaptured.

“Changing numbers on doors with peanut butter — It may sound crazy, but these kinds of people are crazy like a fox,” Walker County Sheriff James Underwood told reporters Monday.
The new jail employee was in a control room at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, watching the inmates on closed-circuit television.
He opened what he thought was the door to allow an inmate into his cell.
But it actually freed the dozen prisoners, who aged from 18 to 30.
They made it out and scaled a barbed-wire fence all within 10 minutes, the sheriff said.
“Escapes happen,” Underwood said. “We’ve got some evil people down here, and they scheme all the time to con us and our employees at the jail. You’ve got to stay on your toes. This is one time we slipped up. I’m not going to make any excuses.”
Eleven of the 12 inmates — some of whom were jailed for attempted murder — were captured by Monday.
Bradley Andrew Kilpatrick, 24, remained the only inmate still on the loose as of Monday night.
He was in jail for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Well…they tried.
