Oprah Winfrey to Campaign for Stacey Abrams in Georgia

Oprah Winfrey is heading down to Georgia to do some grassroots campaigning for Democrat Stacey Abrams as she attempts to become the first Black woman governor in the United States.

The self-made billionaire will hold two town halls and knock on doors to encourage voters to come out for Abrams on Thursday – just five days before the midterm elections, BuzzFeed News reported.

Winfrey’s visit to the Peach State comes just a day before former President Obama will campaign for Abrams and other Democrats during a rally at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Other high-profile Democrats, including former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, also have stumped for Abrams in the state.

But her opponent, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, is also getting a boost from Republican powerhouses. The same day Winfrey, who rejected calls for her to mount a presidential run in 2020, stumps for Abrams, Vice President Pence will attend a number of rallies with Kemp.

President Trump, who has already endorsed Kemp, will travel to Macon on Sunday to campaign for him.

Polls show the race between Abrams and Kemp is at a statistical dead heat.

A Fox 5 Atlanta survey on Monday showed Abrams at 48.1 percent and Kemp at 47.2 percent, with a 3.9 percentage point margin of error.

But a RealClearPolitics poll averages has Kemp up 47.8 percent to 46.4 for Abrams.

Their neck-and-neck election battle has been marred by allegations of voter suppression during early voting that primarily affects blacks.

In a debate last week, Abrams accused Kemp, whose office oversees elections and who has held up 53,000 voter registration applications, of creating an “atmosphere of fear.”

Kemp dismissed her claims as a “farce” and said they’re “absolutely not true.”

“I am honored to have Oprah join me for uplifting and honest conversations with voters about the clear choice before us in this election and the boundless potential of Georgians,” Abrams said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Can you imagine opening your front door and Oprah’s standing on your porch? We’d probably pass out.

Remember to vote on Nov. 6!
