You may have seen a clip going around of Madonna seemingly congratulating herself for outliving some of her music industry peers in an excerpt from her Billboard ‘Woman of the Year’ acceptance speech.

RIP #michaeljackson #whitneyhouston #tupac #prince #davidbowie but #madonna wants you to know she is still here

In the viral clip, Madonna can be heard saying:

“I think the most controversial thing I have ever done is to stick around. Michael is gone. Tupac is gone. Prince is gone. Whitney is gone. Amy Winehouse is gone. David Bowie is gone. But I’m still standing. I’m one of the lucky ones…”

Whoever decided to upload the clip left off a very important last phrase. According to Billboard’s transcript of her speech, Madonna actually says:

“I’m one of the lucky ones …and every day I count my blessings.”

There’s nothing wrong with counting blessings and being thankful that you’re still alive.

You can watch Madonna’s entire speech (in full context) when Billboard’s Women In Music airs Dec. 12 on Lifetime.
