‘Moonlight,’ ‘Hidden Figures,’ ‘Fences’ and More Score Big 2017 Oscar Nominations, Black Actors Receive Nominations in ALL FOUR Acting Categories

The 2017 Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and several black actors broke through in all four acting categories.

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) received a nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role; Viola Davis (Fences), Naomie Harris (Moonlight) and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) were nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role; Denzel Washington (Fences) scored a nod for Actor in a Leading Role; and Ruth Negga (Loving) earned a nomination for Actress in a Leading Role.

Additionally, Moonlight, Hidden Figures and Fences all received Best Picture nominations.

Moonlight also received recognition for Directing, Cinematography, Original Score, Film Editing and Adapted Screenplay, while Ava DuVernay’s 13th, O.J.: Made in America and I Am Not Your Negro scored nominations for Documentary Feature.

Hidden Figures and Fences were also nominated for Adapted Screenplay.
