Jessica Simpson is plotting her return to acting!

After taking a break from acting to concentrate on her various reality and retail empires, the 32-year old homer-singer is gearing up to star in her very own sitcom. Jessica just inked a deal to star in a semi-autobiographical comedy pilot for NBC the network currently airing Fashion Star, the reality competition series in which Simpson is a judge. The pilot will be produced by Universal Television and Electus and loosely inspired by Simpson’s own life experiences.

Ben Silverman, founder and chairman of Electus said in a statement to Access Hollywood;

“We are thrilled to team up with the multi-talented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops. From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.”

Simpson, who is known for her reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica”, and also has started in several straight-to-DVD films, as well as an ABC pilot back in 2004 with a similar premise to her new NBC project released a statement about the new pilot saying;

“I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy. I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life — so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!”

I saw the original ABC pilot starring Jessica, and I’ve seen most of her films, and she’s actually pretty funny, so I’m excited to see how this turns out. Will you be watching?
