The red carpet at the 2014 Golden Globes suffered damage early Sunday afternoon when a sprinkler at the Beverly Hilton hotel ruptured and spewed smelling black liquid all over the walkway.

THR reports:

Around 12:20 p.m. PT, a lighting rig set off a fire sprinkler that sprayed water on various cameras and the red carpet a few hours before show time. The spill was attended to after approximately 15 minutes, with the Beverly Hills Fire Department using air blowers and wet vacuums to clean up the unsightly spill.

Early reports indicated a ruptured pipe had caused the soggy situation. “A pipe has appeared to totally burst and there is water gushing, literally everywhere in the position of where all of the international press — everyone has moved out of the way,” said Catt Sadler during E!’s Countdown to the Red Carpet. “Rain was not expected in L.A. today, but we’ve got a little flooding!”

Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush took a more humorous approach to the disaster, tweeting:

‘Sewage pipe break on red carpet at #GoldenGlobes so it’s not hot as s**t but it could smell like it today. Good times.’
