Flavor Flav pleaded guilty on Monday to a misdemeanor attempted battery charge stemming from an incident in 2012 in which he allegedly made threats against Elizabeth Trujillo and her 17-year-old son.
Flav and the teen got into a physical fight, during which Flav reportedly grabbed a knife and threatened the boy.
Though the charges, which included felony assault and child endangerment with a weapon, could have gotten the 55-year-old, born William Drayton, Jr., up to 12 years in prison, he was only sentenced to a year of informal probation and ordered to complete 12 counseling sessions by August.
Flav hasn’t skated all of his legal woes, though. In January, he was arrested in New York for driving with a suspended license — though according to the AP, he’s paying fines to resolve the case.
He is due back in court in August to ensure that he attended the counseling as sentenced.
