Social media’s most-hated list is riddled with controversial celebrities. Paparazzi-worthy lifestyles have led them to X’s hashtag hot seat or the topic of someone’s viral think piece on TikTok. If you’ve been roaming the streets of “Cyber City” for a while, then you would know that this woman just so happens to be at the top of it. Azealia Banks’ gay and trans remarks are the latest reason why she’s trending. Let’s get into what we know about her recent slamming of queer people.
Azealia Banks took shots at the LGBTQIA+ community
While there’s so much more to the rapper’s contentious career, the rainbow community loaded its flags. Banks took to X and claimed, “Being gay and transgender is not actually a natural thing.” She furthered in her late-July post, “At all, it’s a trauma response. Science lied to you all and told you you were normal, but being homosexual and on the more extreme end — transgender in any regard — is in fact a trauma response.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Banks then accused LGBTQIA+ individuals of being mentally ill. She expanded, “No one is born gay, and no one is born in the wrong body. You guys have mental disorders that science is doing you guys a major disservice by not medicating. Bet you didn’t know that.”

Following the New Yorker’s comments, users flooded the replies, expressing their detest for Banks’ (seemingly) phobic-like beliefs.
“STOP PERFORMING AT OUR PRIDES AND TRYING TO COLLECT OUR COIN THEN YOU OPPORTUNISTIC BIGOT! STOP PANDERING TO GAY MEN WITH YOUR CHEAP A** SOAPS!” @HeyImReallyDrew wrote in response. “You’re AWFUL and thats why your career is garbage and so are your beliefs! So happy I deleted your records A LONG time ago!”

Another person replied, “Sending you love and a licensed therapist, psychologist, and mental institution. Because this ain’t it.” Banks quoted it and said, “Sending you a one-way ticket out of heterosexual discourse and back into the imaginary pedo world from which you come. Please. Sit this out.”

Azealia Banks minimizes Trump’s alleged questionable behavior with underage girls
Although it’s unclear what (exactly) launched Banks’ sentiments about sexual minorities, it appears that things spiraled after her now-deleted post minimizing Donald Trump (allegedly) sleeping with underage girls at the height of his business empire. Trump has long expressed his dislike for the LGBTQIA+ community, be it through laws or lengthy presidential speeches. Therefore, discussions surrounding the U.S. leader can be quite triggering for queer folks.
“Ok, in Donald Trump’s defense, f***ing 14-year-old girls was really only made a social taboo in the 1990s. My grandmother was born in 1927 and had her first child when she was 12,” Banks shared. “Teenage pregnancy only [became] frowned upon with the rise of Jerry Springer. And I also can be honest about the fact that I was old enough to choose, seduce, and decide to f**k grown a** men when I was 15.”
She continued, “I really don’t get why women are fronting like they weren’t f**king 40 year olds at 15 like come on now. I’m honestly not surprised or mad at Trump for getting some 15-year-old p***y because those were the times,” adding, “Now … if he was f***ing a TEN-YEAR-OLD???? … We have a problem. But if the girls were 13+, who cares? Move on.”

Upon Banks’ take on Trump’s reported wrongdoings, the “212” phenomenon received loads of backlash. “Wait, so because child pregnancy and pedophilia were normalized in the past means we shouldn’t care about it now and continue to have it… normalized? Pedophilia is okay because someone we know in our family may have done it? So this is the hill we’re dying on…” someone challenged.
Banks then countered, “No. We should understand that those were the times and figure out how to make it better in the future than — obsessing about sh*t that already happened and shit global governments are never going to give proof of because THE ENTIRETY OF THE GLOBAL ELITE IN EVERY CORNER OF INFLUENCE IS LIKELY IMPLICATED IN THAT CASE.”
She expanded, alluding that sex changes for kids were harmful. “If we’re taking down govt officials for sexualizing children then we are also abolishing healthcare for transgendered children and not medically and surgically mutilating them under the guise of social progression.”
In an additional post from Banks’ account, the entertainer defended, “For the record… I never said it was still OKAY for grown men to be f*cing young girls. I said LET’S BE REALISTIC and put things in PERSPECTIVE. F*cking dry bootyhole gays be shoving everything in the world up their a**es and always trying to clutch their pearls and cast [judgment] on the heteroworld. Like b*tch… Y’all be f*cking gerbils goodnight.”

She also resorted to saying “dumb f***ots are annoying.” In addition, she asked why “LMAGA,” which she refers to as “Let’s Make America Gay Again,” didn’t have the same “energy” for ex-president Joe Biden being accused of sexually assaulting his young daughter.
“The Government should stop paying for trans healthcare. They don’t pay for female healthcare. So why does anyone else deserve free plastic surgery?” she ranted in one of her double-downs. “No one helps the woman through IVF or menopause — funding for hormone transition therapy should be cut. No one deserves free healthcare over the age of 18 or under the age of 60.”

Banks’ homophobe-stricken commentary may come as a shock to some, but the Harlem native has (actually) been voicing similar thoughts quite frequently for (at least) the last decade.

Why Azealia Banks’ Gay and Trans Remarks Struck a Major Nerve
If you didn’t know, Banks has often identified as bisexual for years now, which is a part of the reason why her conflicting statements regarding the LGBTQIA+ community are so problematic. Banks’ X tirade was only one of many. While she’s known for offering her viewpoints on a wide range of social issues, her LGBTQIA+ slurs have been at the head of her insults.
In 2015, TMZ caught Banks having it out with a Delta flight attendant who stepped in to diffuse a situation between her and a fellow passenger. Reportedly, she grew erratic and called the employee a “f*cking f*ggot.” Five years later, in 2020, her X profile (then Twitter) was suspended after she went on a criticism spree toward the LGBTQIA+ group as well.
But… in March 2025, she spoke out against British author J. K. Rowling’s anti-trans views. Per TheWeek.com, the “Harry Potter” writer has done a slew of things that align with the transphobic narrative of her in the media, including liking social media posts that refer to transgender women as “men in dresses” and supporting a bill passed by the United Kingdom’s Supreme Court stating that the definition of a woman is based on one’s sex assigned at birth.
According to Pop Base, Banks said in response, “Maybe her husband cheated on her with a Tr***ylicious diva and that’s why she’s dedicated every waking moment to making sure her life’s legacy is dedicated to harassing people who make up less than 1% of the Global population.”
By May, though, she was back with an X firestorm when she came for K-pop sensation Lalisa Manobal (Lisa of Blackpink). In the post, Banks attacked Manobal’s Met Gala look by calling her a “ladyboy.” She wrote: “It’s giving Adam’s apple and a not-so-taut tuck. Lisa is a man. I’m not walking that comment back.”

Since Banks’ publicized ideology on the psychological aspect of homosexuality in July, she’s (seemingly) proceeded to speak on related subjects. In fact, on Aug. 28, she engaged in a brief back-and-forth with actress/comedienne Roseanne Barr, where she called her son a “f***ot” while talking about spiritual wars among religions. Ultimately, the odd banter ended in Barr inviting Banks on her podcast.

Moreover, when being told to “take her meds” after a diss toward Islam, she extended her LGBTQIA+ slander with, ” I know a lacerated bootyhole bag of aids f*ggot is not talking about some f*cking medication.”

In contradiction to these types of posts, Banks (as of this year) has spoken freely about watching lesbian p*rn, complimented masculine women online, reposted bisexual-girl jokes, and indicated that her controversial X behavior isn’t to be taken seriously.
