Ariana Grande has issued a brief apology for a joke she made about JonBenét Ramsey, the 6-year-old beauty queen who was killed in 1996.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Grande’s friend Doug Middlebrook shared a photo of a tabloid news magazine that reported on JonBenet’s case with the caption, “No one has done more covers.”
Grande, 26, commented, “i cant WAIT for this to be your halloween look,” to which Middlebrook wrote back, “working on it already.”
Fans took screenshots of the post, and criticized the singer for her comments on Twitter.
One person said, “Wait WHAT?? an 8-year-old girl who was violently killed, strangled and suffocated cannot be anyone’s costume.”
JonBenet was found dead in her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. Her case remains unsolved more than 20 years later.
The “7 Rings” singer responded, saying, “yeah no i deleted it very quickly and understand that it’s not at all funny. this was out of pocket and i sincerely apologize.”
Although some fans accepted Grande’s apology, others thought she was only sorry because of the backlash.
“Sis..you left the comment for a whole day,” one fan wrote. “You only apologize once you saw that we called you out on it.”
This is not the first time Grande has been the center of a controversy. In 2015, the pop star issued a video apology for licking doughnuts and saying she hates America.
