It’s been pretty quiet for Alicia Keys lately, but the singer caused herself a bit of controversy by sharing a video cosigning the late XXXTentacion.
via Complex:
In a now-deleted tweet, the singer posted a video of her and her son Egypt playing the piano and singing X’s song “What Are You So Afraid Of,” with the caption, “Such a vibe!! Big love to the talented @xxxtentacion !! Gone too soon.” The song is from his first posthumous album Skins, which was released in December 2018.
However, Keys deleted the tweet after a few hours, amid backlash. Twitter users were responding to her video en masse, and while some commended her, some were really not digging her song selection, given the late rapper’s lengthy record of abuse.
XXXTentacion was shot and killed in Florida in June. At the time of his shooting, he was awaiting trial for domestic violence charges against his pregnant girlfriend.
As expected, social media lit Alicia UP. This girl is on fire!
Take a look:

Sorry, Alicia – I’m letting you go for this one. This is not the right time and you should know this. If you want to champion abusers, that’s cool but I’m also no longer following or supporting you if I can help it.
