It’s no secret that Adele is a huge Beyoncé fan, and the singer reiterated that fact onstage and off at last night’s Grammy Awards.
During her acceptance speech for Album of the Year, the 28-year-old professed her love for Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, calling it “monumental, well thought-out, beautiful and soul baring.”
In a moment not seen by viewers, Adele continued her praise of Beyoncé backstage.
Speaking to reporters, Adele said the following about Beyoncé and Lemonade: “The reason I felt the need to say something was… my album of the year was Lemonade. She is my icon of my whole life.”
She continued: “There’s friendships that I have that are completely defined on us being complete Beyoncé stans, you know? Like, I don’t take any fucking shit when it comes to anyone not liking Beyoncé. You can’t be in my life, you know? You simply can’t. And so I felt the need to do it. Also, I felt like it was her time to win. My view is kinda what the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year? That’s also how I feel.”
