Apple Apologizes for Slowing Down the Performance of Older iPhones, Offers Discounted Battery Replacements for a Year

Apple is apologizing for slowing down older iPhones and is now offering $29 batteries for a year.

“We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize,” Apple said on via its website on Thursday.

“We have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades.”

Apple is facing several class-action lawsuits for allegedly slowing down older iPhones to save battery life.

The company also announced it will be cutting the price of out-of-warranty battery replacements from $79 to $29 — a $50 discount — only for those who have an iPhone 6 or later.

The price cuts will go into effect starting January until December 2018.

Additionally, Apple plans to issue a software update that “give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone’s battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.”
