Phylicia Rashad Cast as Gay Woman in CBS Legal Drama Pilot ‘For Justice’

9th Annual TV Land Awards - Arrivals

Yet another win for diversity.

We shared the news last night that Raven-Symoné will play Dre’s gay sister in an upcoming episode of black-ish, and moments ago we learned that former Cosby Show actress Phylicia Rashad will portray a gay woman in CBS’s drama pilot For Justice.

Per Variety:

Rashad’s character is described as a savvy Washington player who has faced discrimination for her race and sexual orientation, and fights to protect the independence and integrity of her high profile Civil Rights Division.

The project, based on James Patterson’s novel “The Thomas Berryman Number,” follows a female FBI agent (Rashad) working in the Criminal Section of the Department of Civil Rights Division who finds herself caught between her radical real family and her professional family.

Selma‘s Ava DuVernay will direct the pilot episode.
