If you haven’t heard *sarcasm*, Beyoncé’s new visual album, Lemonade, has arrived.

Many of the tracks allude to infidelity — whether it be Jay Z’s, her father’s, or just infidelity in general.

Her father, Mathew Knowles, has addressed the album and some of its lyrical content in an awkward interview with Mark Thompson on SiriusXM’s Make It Plain.

When asked specifically about the poem where Beyoncé says:

“Mother dearest, let me inherit the earth. Teach me how to make him beg. Let me make up for the years he made you wait. Did he bend your reflection? Did he make you forget your own name? Did he convince you he was a god? Did you get on your knees daily? Did his eyes close like doors? Are you a slave to the back of his head? Am I talking about your husband, or you father?”

Mathew responded:

“There’s no way that we can get into the mind of Beyoncé. Only Beyoncé can answer who she specifically is talking to. I’d rather not get into speculation, so my answer is I don’t know. I can only speak of being a proud father. I think Beyonce pushed the envelope of creativity on this HBO special.”

Still, there were parts where Beyoncé specifically mentioned her ‘father’:

“You remind me of my father, A magician. Able to exist in two places at once. In the tradition of men in my blood, you come home at 3 am and lie to me. What are you hiding?”

..but Mathew didn’t want to address that either:

“I know the response you want to get. You’re not going to get that response,” he said.

While he refused to speak on either of those things, he did mention how proud he is of his daughter.

“I am so proud of Beyoncé, because that means the body of work that she did has made that type of impact on the market place. Everybody’s talking about it, everybody’s tweeting about it.”

Well, alright. Listen to the entire interview below.
