Bruce Jenner’s exclusive sit-down with Diane Sawyer proved to be ratings gold for ABC.
The two-hour special, which saw Bruce finally reveal that he’s transgender after months of speculation, was watched by nearly 17 million viewers and notched a sizable 5.2 rating among adults 18 to 49.
For those of you who need a point of comparison, Bruce’s interview performed on a par with FOX’s colossal hit show Empire, which is incredible considering that Friday night is often deemed the graveyard slot in American television.
Even more incredible is that Bruce’s tell-all nearly quadrupled 20/20‘s typical Friday night audience. In fact, ABC reported that Bruce’s interview was the top-rated Friday airing of 20/20 since 2000.
No doubt that ABC executives are currently celebrating this morning.
